WIU Founders Day to be Celebrated September 23

MACOMB, IL - - ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ Illinois University (WIU) will celebrate its traditional Founders Day on Tuesday, September 23 at 10 a.m. The celebration will be held in the University Union Brattain Lounge and will feature remarks from WIU President Kristi Mindrup, WIU Student Trustee James Bierman, and WIU Student Government President Jace Green. Provost Mark Mossman will also ring the traditional bell that was used to signal the first day of classes at ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ Illinois University in 1902.

"Founders Day is a special time for us to celebrate the vision of those who came before us and everyone who continues to advance the mission of public higher education at ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ Illinois University," said WIU President Kristi Mindrup. "Founded to meet the need for teacher education in our region in 1899, ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ continues to meet the educational needs of West Central Illinois through programs like education, criminal justice, agriculture, psychology, nursing and more."
