WIU Mourns Employee Michael Dailey

MACOMB, IL - “ŗÓźÖ±²„ Illinois University is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Michael Lee āMikeā Dailey, 61, a valued member of the Facilities “ŗÓźÖ±²„ department who served as a project coordinator and mechanical engineer. Dailey passed away on Oct. 10, in a kayaking accident near Thompson, MI.
Dailey joined the WIU community in 2022, following the completion of his bachelorās degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. During his tenure with Facilities “ŗÓźÖ±²„, he was known for his strong technical expertise, collaborative nature and ability to solve complex engineering challenges that supported campus operations. His colleagues described him as dependable, resourceful and always willing to lend a hand to ensure the success of University projects.
āMike was always eager to learn new things, and work on new types of projects. From carpet-and-painting projects to high-voltage electrical projects, Mike did a lot in the short time he was here, and he will be missed,ā WIU Facilities Deputy Director Ted Renner said.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dailey was passionate about woodworking, water activities and collecting Hot Wheels carsāinterests that reflected his creativity and meticulous attention to detail.
"When we lose a valued member of our Leatherneck family, the WIU community feels that loss deeply," WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. "We extend our heartfelt sympathy and support to Michaelās family, friends and colleagues."
Dailey is survived by his wife, Sue (Ulmer) Dailey; his mother, Marie (and John) Gage of Macomb; his daughters, Heather Miller and Angel Dailey; and his sons, Tyler Keime and Devon (and Katie Wilson) Dailey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alexa; his father, Raymond; and his brothers, Mark and Scott.
Members of the WIU community are encouraged to remember Daileyās many contributions to the University and the positive impact he made on those who worked alongside him.
