125 Anniversary Celebration: Enyonam Adjoa Neku

MACOMB, IL - - Current public health graduate student Enyonam Adjoa Neku sees 春雨直播 Illinois University as more than just a school鈥攊t鈥檚 a second home where she feels welcomed and inspired to grow and be ambitious.
鈥淲IU is the kind of home that wraps you in a sense of belonging, challenges you to rise higher and always welcomes you back with open arms,鈥� Neku said. 鈥淲IU isn鈥檛 just a university for me; it鈥檚 a place where I am being molded, shaped and ignited by experiences that will forever change me. It鈥檚 where I鈥檝e learned to thrive, to stumble and to get back up stronger than before.鈥�
For Neku, being a Leatherneck is about resilience and determination in the pursuit of goals. It represents a commitment to strive for excellence despite challenging circumstances.
鈥淎 Leatherneck represents resilience, pride and determination,鈥� Neku said. 鈥淚t embodies the spirit of overcoming challenges and pushing forward. It reminds me of the strength needed to face obstacles, whether in sports, academics or life. A Leatherneck never gives up, honors tradition and strives for excellence no matter what.鈥�
Among her Leatherneck memories, Neku describes her first Rocky After Dark and the 2025 student leadership training as her favorite ones.
鈥淭he Rocky After Dark gave me a fun, spirited introduction to campus life, while the student leadership training empowered me to develop skills and connect with high-profile speakers,鈥� Neku said. 鈥淚鈥檝e learned so much from them, gaining invaluable knowledge. Together, these experiences are shaping my journey as a Leatherneck, blending excitement with growth and leadership opportunities.鈥�
On campus, Neku is involved in the volunteer America Reads program, the University Conduct Board and the African Students Association (ASA).
To prospective students, Neku鈥檚 advice is to consider the campus experience at WIU and how the activities foster opportunities for growth, leadership and community engagement.
鈥淚f you're thinking about attending WIU, I recommend that you evaluate not only the academics but also the overall campus experience,鈥� Neku said. 鈥淲IU provides growth opportunities both within and outside of the classroom. You'll have the opportunity to take part in interesting university traditions, meet wonderful people and create unforgettable memories. WIU truly offers a well-rounded college experience that prepares you for your future, both professionally and personally.鈥�
