WIU Mourns the Loss of College of Fine Arts and Communication Dean Billy Clow

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - ֱ Illinois University Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) William T. “Billy” Clow passed away April 17.
To honor his life, the family will host a “Big Billy Party” from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at Park Place on the Square in Macomb.
“Billy Clow had every characteristic required of an excellent Dean: he was an advocate; he was a tireless leader; he was the heart and soul of his College. Billy Clow also had every characteristic required of an excellent colleague, friend and parent: he was generous with his time; he was always willing to help out when someone was in need; and he was profoundly proud of his kids,” WIU Interim Provost Mark Mossman said.
Clow began his career at ֱ in 2012 as the Dean of COFAC. In 2018, he was named interim provost, and he returned to his role as Dean of COFAC in 2022.
Clow received his MFA from Illinois State University (1989) and his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri (1985).
“Billy Clow was a trusted, valued and beloved leader, colleague and friend who led with light, dedicated passion and a sense of perspective and humor,” WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. “His lasting impact on ֱ Illinois University, the Goldfarb Center for Performing Arts, his colleagues, friends and especially students marks the just the beginning of his lasting legacy of light, optimism and a physical place for community celebration of the arts in our region. The Leatherneck family holds his family, Tammy Killian and their children in our hearts and minds as they carry forward Billy’s memory, impact and legacy.”
Clow is survived by his wife, Tammy Killian; his mother, Jeannine Clow of Columbia, MO; his children, Edan Clow, Cullen Clow, Addison Clow and Kate Killian, all of Macomb; his brother, Guy Clow, and sister, Laura Clow, both of Columbia, MO.
